Upper respiratory tract infections
These are viruses that cause runny nose, sore throat, cough, and sometimes fever. Rhinovirus/enterovirus (RV/EV) is one of these viruses that is rising and is elevated across the country. Learn more in our Parent’s Sick Guide
Bronchiolitis
A viral illness that causes inflammation of the small airways called the “bronchioles.” Currently Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is elevated nationally and is a virus that can cause bronchiolitis. Learn more in our Parent’s Sick Guide
Whooping cough (pertussis)
It is a very contagious bacterial respiratory infection. It starts as a common cold but progresses into a severe cough with a high-pitch “whoop” sound. Babies under 1 year are at highest risk of severe disease and complications.
Allergies
This are very common from tree pollens in the spring. They can cause watery/itchy eyes, sneezing, and clear runny nose. Children over 2 years can take Zyrtec or Claritin to help with symptoms.
